Southern Africa has large area, and each region's contributions change with the seasons, when you go may determine where you go.
The best game-viewing period in Africa is usually during the dry season. Eternal water supplies attract animals, the vegetation becomes thinned out, and trees don't have so many leaves to obstruct the view. This finest safari season usually includes winter (May-August) and the hot spring months of September and October. The climate is comfortable in the dry winter months of May, June, July and August. Daytime heats are mild and the nights get a little cool.

It depends where in Africa you are visiting and what you want to do whilst you are there.  I am starting a tour in July around East/Southern Africa - I chose July because the focus of our trip is game viewing and it is much easier to see animals in the winter as it is dry and there is less dense bush, also with less availability of water it is easier to find waterholes that attract a lot of game.  The nights and early mornings can be extremely cold but once the sun starts to shine it's not too bad and you can usually get away with a t-shirt and shorts around midday.

That depends on why you want to visit. One of the most popular reasons to visit Africa is to go on safari. If this is your main reason for traveling to southern Africa, then the winter months are the best time to go. During the winter months the weather is cooler, which means that animals tend to be more active throughout the day. It also means that the foliage and underbrush has dried up, thinned out, and is usually dead, making it easier to spot animals. But most importantly, because the winter months are dry, animals congregate at whatever water source is available. If you are on safari, this means you can simply drive to the water hole and watch the different animals as they interact. This can be very exciting! While there are certain advantages to going on safari during the winter months, game viewing can also be exceptional during other parts of the year.
hope u would have a great trip..
thanks..

As per my opinion best time to visit Africa is the time before the rainy season. The climate is different in every part of Africa. To enjoy the real beauty of this region you should make your visit between November to March.

There is not any particular time to take travel to enjoy. The climate changes in different season. So we need to enjoy the weather as well as with the place.

Deciding when to go on safari depends on what country you would like to visit and when you are able to plan your trip. Seasons differ in East and Southern Africa so you can really plan a great safari for almost every month of the year, if you are flexible about where you want to go to.

Dorothy, thank you so very much for this. I am saving up and planning a whole family trip, and I was planning to do it in summer. What you say makes a lot of sense, and I will now bear that in mind. I don't want to disappoint my children. When they last visited me in Cape Town, I think they kind of expected lions instead of high streets  .::Smiley:.
