Impressive animal market in Lao Cai Vietnam
For tourists in Vietnam Travel want to know more about Vietnam culture and the ethnic minority, local markets are very attractive, especially those in highland provinces.

Local markets in the northwestern province of Lao Cai are places not only for selling local produce, but also to trade animals.

Apart from the famous Bac Ha Horse Market or Can Cau Buffalo Market, a number of other local markets trade in smaller animals, such as chickens, pigs, dogs and cats.

Locals often bring their livestock to these markets when they are in need of money or some other essential good.

Others just go to look around, meet friends or drink wine. They might bring along a dog or a chicken to pay for it.

Pigs and chickens in this region are generally corn-fed, making them better quality livestock.

It's pretty interesting to see live animals or poultry being sold in that market of Vietnam, although the idea of having a really fresh meet is enticing for the buyer, I think it would be a drawback for tourists to buy a live animal and be the one to slaughter or dress it in their homes.

It's ironic isn't it. These animals are clearly healthy and free range and if you were to buy them the meat couldn't be fresher, those are the things that most people think about when buying meat at home. But at the same time, they don't want to be reminded of the fact that an animal has to die in order for them to have meat on thier table. Everyone should be reminded so that they appreciate this fact and they'd appreciate what a great system they have in this market in Vietnam.
