I spent 2 days near Mollem about 3 years ago. I had high hopes from the Mahavir Sanctuary but it proved to be a dampener. Firstly, it required taking an approval to enter the sanctuary one day in advance. The forest office staff was helpful with the procedure but seemed to be stuck in the dark ages with their methods. Only about a km inside the sanctuary was accessible as the area beyond was considered too thick to drive. There were racket-tailed drongoes, common kingfishers, a few more common birds and large flying squirrels.
Dudhsagar Falls were nice for a short visit--slippery stones to get to the falls but still nice enough.
The Tambdi Surla temple was lovely to sit by for an hour or so. Only if you're a birder, it'd help you to scan the vegetation around for owls and hornbills.
The only decent place to stay was Dudhsagar Resorts that was still being setup then. It must be better equipped with sightseeing facilities now.
It seemed necessary to have a personal vehicle at one's disposal for this area.
