Castle of La Rochefoucauld France

 Not far from Angouleme in a small village with population of 3500 people there is a family castle of the La Rochefoucauld. The old noble family gave birth to many famous barons, counts and dukes for all the Medieval  history of France.

 The castle represents a fortified construction restored from outside and half-demolished from backside.

 You may enter the territory for free, but the castle itself for about 40 euros.

 For all its history the castle was repeatedly completed and renewed with some new towers.

 By the way, to own a family residence is an impermissible luxury. Apart from paying huge estate duties it is necessary to restore the inherited building on one's own account. And if even the smallest piece of its mold has some historical importance the owner is forced by law to establish a museum there and accept visitors.  Some words about the village itself. It has the same name - La Rochefoucauld, and has no stores or restaurants. In a word - "civilized god-forsaken hole".

 The streets are pleasant to walk along and thinking to oneself. No wonder one of the La Rochefoucauld family was a famous philosopher and an author of not less famous aphorisms.
