Phandar Lake

 phandar lake , phandar valley, ghizar, PAKISTAN At an elevation of 1454 feet lies the Gilgit valley, offers spectacular scenic view. It is surrounded by lakes, rivers, glaciers and high mountain ranges. Gilgit city is one of the two major hubs for all mountaineering expeditions in the Gilgit-Baltistan . phandar is at a drive of 163 km from Gilgit city.
Phandar valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is very famous among nature lovers and tourists with the name of "Little Kashmir". There are a many lakes (at least one lake after a drive of 30mints). phandar lake, 'kinisoteko lake', 'shahimal lake' are some of the worth mentioning and beautiful lakes. There are also a number of Glaciers in this valley but they are not as famous as it requires mountaineering to reach to them. Two very large and beautiful glaciers are ‘Ghonogh Glacier' and 'Gha cherkick'. These two glaciers are the main sources of irrigation water for the valley. They are not yet known to tourists and other people and I hope through this forum we will be able to bring them to the notice of nature lovers.
O how can I not mention the very famous and delicious TROUT FISH. so for this is the only thing which has kept attracting people to the valley from local and foreigner despite many travelling difficulties which persisted for decades. But now the road is mettaled and it requires only a drive of 4-5 hours from Gilgit city which use to take 12-14 hours a few years back.
Back to trout fish:::
when it is the afternoon time the river banks are captured by local children and tourist putting their 'rod' in the river and it gives more pleasure when one drags the fish in the water (though I feel pity for this lovely creature) and brings it to the bank and during the whole process your excitement increases with each rotation of the machine.
I think it will be very useful, to those who love to visit this valley of paradise, to give the information about adjoining valleys and facilities in this valley.
Well the journey to phandar valley starts from Gilgit(the head quarter of Gilgit-Baltistan, former Northern Areas). You can go either by private hiace or by NATCO(the govt bus service). After one and half hour you will reach Gahkuch after passing through the very beautiful valleys of singal, sherqila,Gich. After an hour you will reach Gupis and during that travel you can enjoy the nature beauty of suma, damas,hakis,hoton and other beautiful valleys.
Then you have to drive for one and half more hour to reach phandar valley. During that part of journey you will come across the beautiful valleys of khalty(where you can have a view the beauty of Khalti Lake ) Jindrot, dahimal, Pingal, chashi and shamaran.
Now you are at Phandar.
phandar is geographically consists of three sub valleys: phandar Khass,Gulaghmuli(my village) and hundrep. All these three valleys are the widest valleys of north. There are lash green planes in Gulaghmuli which you can never else in the world.
Regarding facilities for the tourists and nature lover: the people are very hospitable and welcome everyone who loves nature. There are some good hotels and guest houses too. River view hotel(at phandar Gologh) PTDC(at the top view of Phandar Lake), Shundor guest hose, Wali hotel and restaurant are a few of those where you can have a nice and comfortable stay. If any one needs any information then you can contact us or any member on this site. We will be more than happy to help you out at any time and we welcome you all in this group and to the valley.
