How To Pack For A Trip
« on: June 25, 2009, 06:25:37 AM »
Packing the baggage for trips can be a tedious task. When you are hurrying up with the task, you either forget to include all the necessary items into your list or end up over-packing the bags. Packing requires a lot of patience, especially when you have many things to carry with you. With careful planning, you can pack for a trip very easily. Explore the tips given in this article and know how to pack for a trip.

 Packing For A Trip

 Make A List
Make a list of items needed for your trip - clothes, shoes, accessories, toiletries, route maps and valuables. Destination plays a very important role in deciding what you are going to pack. The place will decide your attire, accessories as well as food. Weather is another factor in deciding as to what you want in your bags.

Determine The Size Of The Bags
The size of the packing bags is determined by the number of days you will be on tour. Generally, a 22-inch backpack is used for packing the luggage for one to three-days trip. Make use of a 24-inch cargo bag if you are on tour for a week. A larger bag, say a 27-inch cargo bag, will be required to stuff the things, if your trip extends from 7 to 14 days.

 Backpack
While packing a backpack, keep the lighter things on the bottom and heavier ones at the top. This way, your bag will become comparatively lightweight. Moreover, the luggage will not put much strain on your lower back and shoulders, when you carry it. While placing the clothes in the backpack, make sure that the most frequently used clothes are at the top, while the dress-up ones are at the bottom.

 Suitcase
In order to accommodate more clothes into your suitcase, it is suggested to roll or fold them. However, this can be done only for those clothes that are prone to fewer wrinkles, such as jeans. Now, place them on the bottom of the suitcase. Remove the plastic coverings of the dry-cleaned clothes and place them on the top of the first layer of clothes. Fill the corner edges of the suitcase with small items, like socks and handkerchief. Cover the top layer of the suitcase with a clean cloth and close it.

 Plastic Bags
Toiletries, first aid supplies and medicines can be packed into a couple of plastic bags. Make use of zipper-lock plastic bags for the purpose. After packing the stuff, insert it into the outside compartment of the suitcase or pocket of the backpack/bags. Place your shoes in airtight plastic bags.

 Handbag/ Carry-on Bag
Keep your valuables and important documents, such as credit cards, passport and tickets, in a closeable file or envelope and place it in your handbag. Keep your cash in a money belt and insert it into the file. You will require a photocopy of your passport and other ID proof as well. Write down the important phone numbers, you will need them in case of emergencies like theft or loss of luggage. If you are going for a very small trip, say a day or two, packing a fresh change of clothes, along with the valuables, in your carry-on or handbag will be handy.

Packing for a trip, whether it is long or short can be a bit of a chore. Packing is not an easy task especially these days with the flight restrictions and making sure you are abiding by all the security and weight restrictions.
With Christmas holidays soon approaching and peak time flight prices rising it is the best time to plan your holiday.  Holidays is an opportunity to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Another factor which a lot of people tend to forget is getting to your destination holiday, wearing your most comfortable clothing, packing entertainment for the journey and a travel pillow for those long haul flights. So being prepared is the key to having a relaxing hassle free holiday.

Usually, Making A List is what I mostly do when I pack for a trip. It covers almost all of what I should do and bring for those trips including my what-tos and where-tos.
