             Segway Personal Transporter

This  unusual, two-wheel electric 'scooter' was first introduced in 2001 in  the USA. It's since become the vehicle of choice for mall security, nerdy college students, city tour guides and rich millionaires with too  much time on their hands. These machines run on phosphate-based lithium-ion batteries that can be charged using a regular electric outlet.

While they can only go as fast as 20kmph, they sure beat  walking on a sunny afternoon! This environmentally-friendly mode of  transport costs anywhere between Rs. 1,50,000 and Rs. 5,00,000

             Martin Jetpack

This  extremely cool mode of transportation was developed in--of all places--New Zealand by the Martin Aircraft Company. For a mere $100,000 (once it's set for mass production) you can own one of these bad boys and fly all over your neighborhood.

This jetpack has a 2-litre  two-stroke V4 engine and one rotor on each side that can make you soar  up to 8000 feet! If this is how we're going to travel in the future, we  just can't wait for it

             Terrafugia Transition

Massachusetts  based company Terrafugia has been working on a car that can fly for the  last 5 years or so. They're still developing the Transition, a concept  car that can barely reach speeds of 100 kmh, but on a touch of a few  buttons, will spread its wings and fly!

This revolutionary  vehicle can seat two people and has a fuel capacity of 87 litres. In  flight, it can reach speeds of upto 185 kmh, and while in cruise mode it  consumes only 19 litres of fuel per hour. However, a proposed price of  about $195,000 makes it just a little expensive, doesn't it?

             Google's Driverless Car

Google,  in collaboration with the Nevada Department of Transportation, is  currently working on developing an autonomous driving system for cars.  If this project pans out, it will truly revolutionize road transport and  minimize accidents.

This system works using data received from  Google Street View, artificial intelligence software, internal cameras  and a LIDAR optical ranging system placed on top of the vehicle. It has  been successfully tested on some crowded streets and highways in  America. However, we will be convinced only when this system prevails in  Mumbai traffic!

             AIRPod

This  compressed air-powered three-wheeled vehicle is the perfect response to  increasing fuel prices. This 220-kg pod can attain speeds of up to 65  kmh and can seat 3 to 4 people in its compact cabin. Operated by a  simple joystick, this could slowly replace outdated golf carts. It could  also usher in a whole new era of eco-friendly driving in our massively  congested megacities.

Still in the developmental stage, it is bound to make a splash when it goes into mass productio
