While Michigan is possibly better known for being water and camping wonderland in summer, there is plenty to do during the winter months, both indoors and out.
Skiing - Michigan has lots of snow and plentiful ski hills sprinkled around the state. These aren't the peaks of Colorado and Switzerland, but they'll do for a few fun afternoons. Some of best known are Boyne and Crystal Mountain at the northern end of the Lower Peninsula, but there are other spots around the state, including Caberfae in Cadillac, Cannonsburg in Grand Rapids, Pine Knob outside Detroit and many smaller spots
Indoor Water Parks - Popular with kids, teens and adults, indoor water parks are kept at a pleasant heat and are filled with slides, splash pads, swimming pools, hot tubs - a welcome relief from the snowy weather outdoors. There are several in Michigan, including Avalanche Bay at Boyne Mountain, Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City and in Splash Village in Frankenmuth.
Casinos - If gaming is your happiness, or you just enjoy a night out at the casino dining and listening to live music, you can check out one of Michigan's casinos. The glitziest are the Detroit casinos, Greektown Casino, Motor City Casino and the MGM Grand, but there are smaller, Native American casinos around the state, like Little River in Manistee and Soaring Eagle in Mount Pleasant.
Winter Sports - If you look around, you'll find that larger towns in Michigan have a place for sledding and ice skating. A few offer more unusual activities, like the luge at the Muskegon Winter Sports or snow tubing at the Double J Resort in Rothbury.
